Nor-Carotenoids as the Major Volatile Excretion Products of Cyanidium
نویسنده
چکیده
Cyanidium caldarium excretes a series of nor-carotenoids. A 110 litre culture was used to isolate and determine the structure of 5 compounds: methylheptone, geranylacetone, /?-ionone, dihydrotrim ethylnaphthalene, butenylidenetrimethylcyclohexene. An algal bioassay was used to determine their effectivness on the growth of photoautotrophic organisms. The growth of Anabaena, Synechococcus, Nannochloris and Cyanidium was found to be inhibited at concentrations between 10 to 50 ppm.

Carotenoids are one of the most important and widely distributed pigments in nature and have essential biological functions in organisms. They also impart distinctive and attractive coloration to the breeding animals. Over the past two decades, application of microbial carotenoids has attracted the attention of researchers due to their natural and economic advantages. However, carotenoid produc...

متن کاملVolatile Glucosinolate Degradation Products of Brassica Napus and Sinapis Alba Seeds
Brassica napus L. and Sinapis alba L. are two cruciferous species for which some medicinal uses are mentioned in the Iranian, Indian and Chinese traditional medicine. Seed oil of B. napus has cathartic action, and is either used as such or after partial hydrogenation for cooking, shortening or as margarines. Sees of S. alba have also cathartic action and some other medicinal uses but, beca...
متن کاملThe carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase 1 enzyme has broad substrate specificity, cleaving multiple carotenoids at two different bond positions.
In many organisms, various enzymes mediate site-specific carotenoid cleavage to generate biologically active apocarotenoids. These carotenoid-derived products include provitamin A, hormones, and flavor and fragrance molecules. In plants, the CCD1 enzyme cleaves carotenoids at 9,10 (9',10') bonds to generate multiple apocarotenoid products. Here we systematically analyzed volatile apocarotenoids...
